THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO A SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to a Sustainable Tourism" was a youth exchange that happened in Funchal, Madeira Island (Portugal), between the 8th and the 18th of December 2025, gathering together 27 participants from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece and Croatia. The objective was to discuss, reflect and raise awareness for the challenges of tourism, particularly "overtourism", trying to find a balance that makes it possible to welcome tourists without harmful effects, ensuring that the "over" condition does not undermine its purpose. At the same time, we aimed to promote active, conscious, and responsible citizenship, a sustainable ecological transition, a fairer economy, and a diverse, tolerant, and inclusive society.

The project was certified and funded by Erasmus+ Programme, from European Commission, was promoted by Leopardo Daltónico and its partners Giovani Iddoca (Italy), Youth Horizons (Greece), IYP (Croatia) and Sumo de Bellota (Spain).

During the project we developed a traveling guide with tips and recommendations for the responsible and conscious traveller, that you can adopt. Please check it above:
